Marin Frist (Anne Heche), a relationship coach and best-selling author, thinks she knows everything when it comes to men, but when she learns that her fiance, Graham, has been cheating on her, Marin is forced to reexamine everything she thought she knew. In order to take a look at herself, Marin resolves to stay temporarily in Elmo, Alaska after a speaking engagement there. However, Elmo has plenty of one thing Marin really doesn't need: available men. The eclectic town of Elmo natives include Patrick (Derek Richardson), the manager of the town inn and radio station; Jack Slattery (James Tupper), a handsome biologist who soon has his eye on Marin; Ben (Abraham Benrubi), the owner of the town bar; Theresa (Sarah Strange), Ben's estranged wife; Celia (Cynthia Stevenson), Patrick's overbearing mother and chief of police; and Annie (Emily Bergl), Marin's friend who followed her to Alaska.
